AWG (American Wire Gauge) converters translate between AWG numbers and actual wire diameter/cross-sectional area.

Steg-för-steg-guide

  1. 1AWG scale: smaller number = larger wire
  2. 2Each step decreases diameter by ~1.123× (logarithmic)
  3. 3Cross-sectional area roughly doubles every 3 AWG sizes

Lösta exempel

Ingång
10 AWG copper wire
Resultat
2.588 mm diameter, 5.26 mm² area, ~31 ampere rating
Typical household branch circuit

Vanliga misstag att undvika

  • Confusing AWG number with diameter (smaller number = larger wire)
  • Using incorrect ampacity table (varies by insulation type)

Vanliga frågor

Why the inverse sizing?

Historical convention; AWG 0 was largest, lower numbers larger. Counterintuitive but established.

How does wire gauge relate to current capacity?

Ampacity depends on material, insulation, installation (bundle, conduit). Larger cross-section carries more current.
