Ideal weight formulas estimate a target weight based solely on height and sex. Multiple formulas exist (Robinson, Miller, Devine, Hamwi) and typically give similar but not identical results. No single formula is universally accepted — the "ideal" weight also depends on muscle mass, bone density, and individual health.

  1. 1All formulas start from a base weight at 5 feet (60 inches) height
  2. 2Add a fixed amount per inch (or cm) above that base
  3. 3Men generally have higher ideal weights than women at the same height
  4. 4Results are reference points — BMI 18.5–24.9 often gives a wider healthy range
