What is Osmotic Pressure?

Osmotic pressure is the pressure needed to prevent osmosis — the flow of solvent across a semipermeable membrane from dilute to concentrated solution. π = MRT, where M is molarity, R is the gas constant, and T is temperature in Kelvin.
