How to Calculate eGFR Calculator (CKD-EPI)

What is eGFR Calculator (CKD-EPI)?

eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) measures kidney function — how well the kidneys filter waste from blood. Calculated from serum creatinine, age, and sex using the CKD-EPI 2021 equation (replaces MDRD). Normal eGFR > 90 mL/min/1.73m².

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. 1CKD-EPI 2021: eGFR = 142 × min(Cr/κ,1)^α × max(Cr/κ,1)^-1.200 × 0.9938^Age × 1.012 (female)
  2. 2κ = 0.7 (female), 0.9 (male) · α = −0.241 (female), −0.302 (male)
  3. 3Classify by eGFR into CKD stages G1–G5

Worked Examples

Input
Female, age 55, creatinine 1.1 mg/dL
Result
eGFR ≈ 58 mL/min/1.73m² → G3a (mildly-moderately reduced)
Warrants nephrology referral
